Harlem Center

  • Descriptions:125,000 s.f. 7-story office building over-built on an existing 3-story retail structure
  • Criteria:A contemporary design with traditional materials which is contextually sensitive. The design also calls for effectively use of natural light as well as minimize cost and construction duration.

  • Red brick exterior walls, typical to the neighborhood, was selected to be the key material for the front and sides of Harlem Center.
  • Aluminum composite panels were used at the back of the building to give it a more contemporary feel.
  • Different shades of red bricks were  arranged in intricate, three dimensional African motif to enhance the neighborhood identity.
  • Low-E (energy efficient) insulated glass ribbon windows were specified for maximizing natural light.
  • Pre-fabricated brick panels were utilized for better quality control, schedule management and budgeting purposes.
